A clothes moth trap shows whether clothes moths are flying about in your wardrobe, where they are and how many there are. The Super Ninja Clothes Moth Trap is a pheromone trap for the wardrobe, the bedroom and the storage room: the pheromone attracts the adult males of the common clothes moth, and the sticky layer holds them. Do clothes moth traps work?
Clothes moth traps work as a way to find and follow clothes moths, not as a cure. They catch the adult males and show you whether, where and how many moths there are; the Natural History Museum describes pheromone traps as a way to monitor an infestation. The larvae in your clothes are not caught, so freezing, washing and cleaning the wardrobe are still needed. After that, the trap tells you whether your clear out has worked.
Which clothes moth trap should you choose?
Choose the pack of 4 if you see moths in one or two wardrobes, and the pack of 10 if you want to keep an eye on more wardrobes, the bedroom and the storage room, or replace the traps every 3 months without ordering again. Each trap comes in its own aluminium pouch, so you only open what you need.
What does a clothes moth trap catch?
The clothes moth trap catches the adult males of the common clothes moth (Tineola bisselliella), the moth whose larvae eat holes in wool, cashmere and silk. It does not catch females, eggs or larvae, and it does not catch pantry moths from the kitchen either: for those there are the pantry moth traps.
How does a pheromone moth trap work?
A pheromone moth trap releases the scent that female moths use to attract males of their own species. Males that come to it stick to the sticky layer. That is why the trap only works on the common clothes moth, and why the catch shows you whether, where and how many moths there are. It does not reach the larvae in your clothes: freeze or wash affected items and clean the wardrobe thoroughly.
Where should you hang a clothes moth trap?
Hang the trap upright in the wardrobe, the bedroom or the storage room, close to clothes made of wool, cashmere or silk and somewhere dark. Use it indoors only.
How many clothes moth traps do you need?
Start with one trap per wardrobe. If you have more wardrobes, a wardrobe full of wool or moths in another room, hang a trap there too. If one trap catches clearly more than the other, the source is probably close by.
How long does a clothes moth trap last?
The pheromone stays active for 3 months. Replace the trap after that, or sooner if the sticky layer is full. Unopened, the trap keeps for 3 years.
